In Hades, Zagreus needs friends in high places to help in his escape attempts. Nectar is the best way to make godly friends in the roguelike video game. The mysterious substance is all around the Underworld, but the stuff doesn’t just grow on trees.
Finding Nectar may seem random or hard, but it doesn’t have to be. Follow this guide to harvesting Nectar, and it will flow like Dionysus’ wine.
What Is Nectar?
Nectar is a delicious drink of the gods. It’s in the Underworld realm, but no one knows how it’s made. All of the gods love the stuff, although it comes from the deepest and darkest realm. It appears as a small bottle with a golden orange liquid inside, closed with a purple bow.
As Zagreus, Hades players will encounter Nectar a lot. Zagreus doesn’t drink the stuff often, but it can better his chances of escape. Because of its versatility, it’s always an excellent item to find when possible.
Hades describes Nectar as “the Underworld’s number-one delicacy and truly perhaps one of the only sources of genuine lightness here within this realm. … Everyone I know in the Underworld, irrespective of their disposition, categorically enjoys the stuff. It is a prized possession, and anyone who would offer it up willingly does so genuinely as a friend.”
How to Use Nectar?
Almost every NPC Zagreus encounters will happily take a bottle of Nectar. The gods thrive on the stuff, and will even thank players for it with a gift of their own: A Keepsake that will help him escape in some way. Certain characters will offer better gifts than others, but every character will provide something.
Keepsakes can add to Zagreus’ life total, give him more robust defenses from attacks, or give him higher chances at rare boons. As players progress through the game, Zagreus can increase Keepsake ranks and use multiple at a time.
How to Farm Nectar?
Finding Nectar in the Underworld can be a matter of luck, but it is possible to increase the chances. There are several ways to find a delicious drink and the best place is a chamber reward. Search for room doors with Nectar on them and guarantee a bottle once the area is clear of enemies.
Charon’s gift shops are another great place to find Nectar. The groaning boatman will offer it for 200 Obol. Charon may not have it for every visit, but it’ll be essential to have the coins when he does.
Zagreus can also find some Nectar in the Infernal Troves. After clearing a chamber of enemies, access the Infernal Trove chest for an additional challenge and reward. Nectar will sometimes be on the menu.
Poseidon and Dionysus both give boons that involve Nectar. Poseidon’s Sunken Treasure offers a variety of gifts and can sometimes include Nectar. Dionysus’ Premium Vintage provides Zagreus an initial offering of Nectar. After that, it will heal him every time he picks up another bottle.
Finally, Zagreus can get Nectar by trading with the Wretched Broker. Unlike Charon, the Wretched Broker always has Nectar in stock, but Zagreus will have to exchange 5 Keys. Sometimes the Wretched Broker will have a Limited Offer of Nectar for 10 Gems.
Zagreus must find gifts for the gods, and Nectar is one of the best available in Hades. He needs help to escape the Underworld, so having a large supply of the delicious stuff can make things easier. Nectar is the only way to get Keepsakes and the best way to get to know the characters, so start searching far and wide during the next escape.
