South Park 10 Characters With Great Potential

The popular animated show South Park doesn’t shy away from pushing its characters to their limits. The four leads, Stan Marsh, Kyle Broflovski, Eric Cartman, and Kenny McCormick, have gone through countless weird and wonderful situations since the debut of the show in 1997, and each of their personalities and backstories are well-cemented in their universe.

The four boys are often joined by a revolving door of different characters, some of whom have yet to see their true moment in the spotlight. Having such a strong main cast with hilarious dynamics means it’s easy for other characters to get left on the floor of the writer’s room, though maybe it’s a matter of time before they get their moment to shine.

10 Tolkien Black Brings Sanity To South Park

South Park 10 Characters With Great Potential

With Tolkien recently correcting everyone on his actual name, he’s leaped to the forefront of viewers’ minds as a brilliant and underused character. Easily one of the sanest of all South Park’s children, if not all of its characters, Tolkien provides a much more normal, well-adjusted worldview.

As one of the only minorities on the show, Tolkien suffered from only appearing when racial injustices were being discussed. This does a disservice to his brilliant, witty, to-the-point character, especially when he’s one of the individuals on the show who’s willing to properly stand up to Cartman, physically or otherwise.

9 Wendy Testaburger Has A Wide Variety Of Skills

South Park 10 Characters With Great Potential

Although she’s the most prominent female character in South Park, Wendy seems to have a plethora of incredible skills at her disposal that haven’t been used to their fullest yet. Learning Japanese fluently after becoming obsessed with Chinkpokomon, being an incredible ice skater, and the level of aggression she shows Cartman in their fight all point towards Wendy having a lot more to give.

She’s also something of a leader when it comes to the girls at South Park Elementary, and her leadership lends itself well to making her a strong, intriguing character. It would be interesting to see more of Wendy’s dynamic with the other girls, considering they seem to all listen to her so intently.

8 Butters Stotch Is A Delight

South Park 10 Characters With Great Potential

Despite the teasing often pushed his way and his prevalence in the episodes, Butters still has a long way to go to reach his full potential. His brilliant arc as Professor Chaos proved to viewers that despite being a fan-favorite who gets plenty of screentime, he still has a couple of surprises up his sleeves.

Butters, in general, is simply a great foil for many of the main four boys’ more unlikeable traits. He possesses the compassion and kindness that the other boys tend to lack, and it’s a nice change of pace to see the world through his rose-colored glasses.

7 Ike Broflovski Should Go Into Comedy

South Park 10 Characters With Great Potential

As Kyle’s little brother, Ike is typically only brought on-screen to add a bit more body to Kyle’s storylines, or to give Kyle a motivation to fix a problem he typically wouldn’t bother interfering with. But Ike is a stand-out comedic character in his own right, despite his age.

Dropping some memorable lines such as “Don’t kick the g*****n baby!” and “Daddy called you a p***y,” Ike has never failed to deliver a showstopper, and giving the young character a few more solid storylines would do him justice.

6 Henrietta Biggle Seems Oddly Disliked

South Park 10 Characters With Great Potential

Henrietta dislikes both of her parents, even going so far as to say she hates them and is equally disliked by her younger brother Bradley in return. However, no reasons are ever given for any of this strange familial behavior, with Henrietta’s main storyline and personality trait being that she’s a member of the Goth Kids.

With Michael getting a considerable chunk of time on his own without the other Goth Kids, it would make sense to give the others some time to shine, especially Henrietta.

5 Bebe Stevens Is A Lethal Weapon

South Park 10 Characters With Great Potential

Not only does Bebe, at the age of ten, know how to use a handgun, but she’s been directly responsible for two of Kenny McCormick’s deaths already. Although she was the focus of “Bebe’s Boobs Destroy Society,” she hasn’t had much of an arc since despite her wild track record.

Next to Wendy Testaburger, Bebe is the second most prevalent female kid character on the show, but she still doesn’t have very much backstory or significant development. If anything, that’s a good thing, because it leaves her character’s development open to a multitude of brilliant ideas.

4 Karen McCormick Deserves A Bit Of Happiness

South Park 10 Characters With Great Potential

Karen is Kenny’s long-suffering little sister who, arguably, struggles the most because of her family’s poverty. As the only daughter in the family and being of very small stature, she’s an easy target for local bullies. Her only solace is the fact she’s protected by Mysterion, who she doesn’t realize is Kenny’s alter-ego.

Despite the large cast of characters, Karen is one of the most tragic. As the sibling of such an iconic member of the core group, her potential for storylines, happy or sad, is incredible.

3 Firkle Smith Is Hardcore Goth

South Park 10 Characters With Great Potential

Truthfully, all of South Park’s Goth Kids have heaps of potential, but the mysteries that still surround Firkle make him one of the most exciting prospects for bigger and better story arcs.

He’s significantly younger than the other Goth Kids but seems just as ready to devote himself to everything goth. He even seems somewhat more extreme than the others, especially since he refers to everyone else at the school as “Nazi conformist cheerleaders.” His temporary betrayal of the Goth Kids indicates he’s not a very wholesome character and has potential for further villainy in the future.

2 Bradley Biggle Is A Visitor From Outer Space

South Park 10 Characters With Great Potential

Since it was revealed that Bradley is not human at all, but an alien called Gok’Zarah, South Park has failed to do anything exciting with the extraterrestrial visitor.

Not only that, Bradley is thought of highly around the Colorado town, as evidenced by his spot on the girls’ list ranking all of the boys’ attractiveness. A reveal of his true identity could seriously rock a lot of people’s perceptions.

1 Shelley Marsh Is The Best Worst Big Sister

Stan Marsh’s iconic, bratty, ill-tempered older sister tends to rub most people the wrong way, but that’s also exactly what everyone likes about her. From her poetic use of the word “turds” to the way she’s softened and opened up over time, Shelley deserves a big character arc.

Her temporary death in the first special flash-forward Covid episode got a strong reaction from fans, who weren’t outraged she was gone but were certainly hugely disappointed when they thought they’d missed out on her journey. There’s a demand for more of Shelley Marsh, and there are plenty of avenues to explore with the older Marsh sibling.
