During the stream for gamescom Opening Night Live, developer 343 Industries and Xbox showcased a first look at the Halo Infinite Limited Edition Xbox Series X Bundle and the Halo Infinite Limited Edition Elite Series 2 controller. Given that this November marks the 20th anniversary of Halo: Combat Evolve’s debut on the original Xbox, it should come as no surprise that Xbox and Co. have chosen to commemorate with a special edition console.
After all, custom Halo-themed Xbox consoles hit stores at least once a generation. The Xbox 360 era, for example, saw Microsoft roll out a snazzy-looking silver device to honor the September 2010 release of Bungie’s last entry in the franchise – Halo: Reach. Xbox One received its own limited edition design, a stylish silver and blue 1TB console that launched just in time for Halo 5’s Fall 2015 due date. With another Halo installment on the way, Xbox has again prepared a specially designed device set to arrive later in the year.
On November 15, 2021, Microsoft plans to unleash a limited edition Xbox Series X bundle modeled after Halo Infinite. A special edition Elite Series 2 controller is similarly getting the Halo treatment, the company announced in an Xbox Wire post following the gamesom Opening Night Live reveal. Pre-orders are live online for both devices now, with the custom console costing $549.99 and the controller bearing a $199.99 price tag. Get a closer look at the Halo-themed Series X and Elite gamepad in the following trailers:
The new hardware is meant to honor the Halo franchise’s 20th anniversary, which falls on November 15 of this year. As such, those lucky enough to secure a preorder for the limited edition Series X and controller can expect to receive their devices a few short weeks ahead of Halo Infinite’s recently confirmed December 8 launch.
Microsoft and 343 Industries initially planned to release Halo Infinite alongside the Xbox Series X|S in November 2020. Technical issues and an effort to further improve upon the experience culminated in a yearlong delay. A late 2021 arrival seems fitting, though, given that longtime fans and newcomers alike will be able to celebrate the brand’s 20th anniversary while diving into Master Chief’s latest adventure.
