Hagrid was a key part of the Harry Potter saga, and while he’s been inspiring at times we couldn’t help feel sorry for him a times.

In the Harry Potter series, Harid is one of the more lovable characters. He functions as one of Harry’s closest confidants and protectors from early on, and many fans love this gentle, half-giant man.

Hagrid is a person who didn’t have an easy life by any means, so there were many times that fans felt sorry for the things that he went through. He could also be quite brash and inspiring, and these are things that fans loved about him.

10 Inspiring: When he told Madam Maxime that he was part giant

For the first few years Harry knew Hagrid, he never really questioned why Hagrid was so much larger than the average person. It’s only when he overhears him talking to Madame Maxime that he learns that Hagrid’s mother was a giant. Hagrid is inspiring in this scene because he clearly is opening up and being vulnerable to the woman that he cares a lot about it, and this is never an easy thing to do.

9 Felt Sorry: Learning why he was expelled from Hogwarts

Hagrid was expelled from Hogwarts when he was only thirteen, and being expelled in the wizarding world seems like unfair punishment in the first place.

The fact that a 13-year-old could make a mistake and then lose their chance of ever using magic doesn’t make any sense. However, in Hagrid’s case, it’s even worse because he was expelled for opening the Chamber of Secrets when he didn’t do it.

8 Inspiring: How much he cared about Harry

Hagrid is someone who can be a bit obtuse about the best way to handle things. He’s not always perfect at watching out for others, but he really does his best. Hagrid cares about Harry a lot, and he’s a constant figure in Harry’s life throughout his time at Hogwarts. It’s inspiring how much Hagrid takes Harry under his wing and looks out for him.

7 Felt Sorry: Learning about how he lost his father at a young age

The more fans learned about Hagrid and his past the more they felt sorry for him. Hagrid didn’t have a mother because she was a giant, and they aren’t known for being great parents. He was really close to his father and cared about him a lot, but his father died when Hagrid was only in his second year at Hogwarts which made him basically an orphan.

6 Inspiring: When he had to carry Harry’s dead body out of the forest

This is definitely a heart-wrenching moment, and it’s also a time that fans felt sorry for Hagrid. However, it’s also rather inspiring because it shows how important a figure Hagrid was to Harry. It was Hagrid who had to find the strength to carry Harry’s dead body from the Forbidden Forest after Harry was killed by Voldemort, and it’s inspiring that he was able to take on this horrible role.

5 Felt Sorry: When he was trying to take care of Grawp

Hagrid is known for being a little too invested in dangerous magical creatures, and while this is admirable in a way, he also needs to care a bit more about the safety of the humans around him. When he takes Grawp with him to live in the Forbidden Forest, it might not have been his best plan. However, it’s understandable that he felt compassion for his half-brother and wanted him to be safe.

4 Inspiring: His love of teaching about magical creatures

Hagrid did need to learn how the best way to take care of some magical creatures was just to leave them alone, and his love of monsters could go too far.

However, the fact that he could see the beauty in creatures that others despised was rather inspiring. He did know how to take care of many animals and magical creatures, and he had a lot of compassion.

3 Felt Sorry: The judgment he faced when it came out he was part giant

After Rita Skeeter revealed to the wizarding world that Hagrid was part giant in her Daily Prophet article, it was clear just how much prejudice there was against people like him. Even Ron was suspicious for a moment, and he knew Hagrid really well. It was definitely unfair that Hagrid was judged and hated because of this, and it was a lot of bigotry.

2 Inspiring: That he was a member of the Order of the Phoenix

Hagrid showed just how much of a brave, good person he was when he was one of the members of the Order of the Phoenix. He also put his safety at risk by going with Olympe to try to talk to the giants on Dumbledore’s orders. Hagrid was someone who had a lot of compassion for others, and the fact that he was fighting against Voldemort is inspiring.

1 Felt Sorry: When he was taken to Azkaban for something he didn’t do

While it was bad enough that Hagrid got expelled for opening the Chamber, which he didn’t do, it was even worse when he was taken to Azkaban when the Chamber reopened. Azkaban is a truly terrifying and inhumane place, and the thought of Hagrid having to live in those conditions when he was an innocent man had many fans feeling bad for him.
