Marvel Studios released a new TV spot to hype up Black Widow’s upcoming Disney+ release date for all subscribers.

The promo features various shots from the film, along with confirmation that Black Widow will be free for all Disney+ subscribers on Oct. 6.

Black Widow was released in theaters and through Disney+ Premier Access on July 9. However, that hybrid release resulted in a messy lawsuit between The Walt Disney Company and Scarlett Johansson over the $50 million+ the actor was supposed to receive from a strict theatrical release. “Disney intentionally induced Marvel’s breach of the agreement, without justification, in order to prevent Ms. Johansson from realizing the full benefit of her bargain with Marvel,” the suit claimed.

“There is no merit whatsoever to this filing,” Disney swiftly responded. “The lawsuit is especially sad and distressing in its callous disregard for the horrific and prolonged global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.” Disney also noted, “the release of Black Widow on Disney+ with Premier Access has significantly enhanced [Johansson’s] ability to earn additional compensation on top of the $20M she has received to date.”

On Sept. 30, after three months of litigation, it was announced that Disney and Johansson settled the suit, though the terms have yet to be disclosed. “I am happy to have resolved our differences with Disney,” Johansson said. “I’m incredibly proud of the work we’ve done together over the years and have greatly enjoyed my creative relationship with the team. I look forward to continuing our collaboration in years to come.”

“I’m very pleased that we have been able to come to a mutual agreement with Scarlett Johansson regarding Black Widow,” Disney Studios Chairman Alan Bergman added. “We appreciate her contributions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and look forward to working together on a number of upcoming projects, including Disney’s Tower of Terror.”

Lawsuits aside, Black Widow proved to be another success for Marvel Studios, grossing $378.8 million worldwide without factoring in the Disney+ Premier Access purchases. That said, the film was bested just a few months later by Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which received a pure theatrical release.

Black Widow is now available on Blu-ray, 4K UHD and DVD. The film will be available to all Disney+ subscribers on Oct. 6.
