My Hero Academia 10 Things That Make No Sense About Izuku Midoriya

When one talks about some of the most popular ongoing shonen anime, it goes without saying that My Hero Academia would definitely rank at the very top of this list for obvious reasons. After all, the fact of the matter is that this show has become all the rage for a ton of reasons. The setting is unique yet familiar enough to not ostracize new viewers, the action is truly brilliant in every sense of the word, and the writing keeps fans hooked from the very start of the show.

Of course, it would be impossible to talk about the positives of My Hero Academia without mentioning the brilliance of its main cast, with the protagonist, Izuku Midoriya, being a notable mention in this regard. While he might fall into the usual shonen trappings, there’s no denying the fact that he’s still a very compelling character… even though there are several things about his character that definitely make no sense.

10 The Strength Training He Underwent Was Way Too Strenuous For His Age

My Hero Academia 10 Things That Make No Sense About Izuku Midoriya

For a fifteen-year-old kid who didn’t really have any intense physical regimen when he was growing up as a child, it’s genuinely dangerous for him to go through All Might’s training every single day for months on end without any break. Ideally, his body should’ve broken down in a few days… but he somehow managed to get through this grueling exercise with little to no problems, which is rather odd.

9 It’s Surprising How All Might Was Okay With Him Breaking All His Bones

My Hero Academia 10 Things That Make No Sense About Izuku Midoriya

After finally receiving the power of One for All, All Might should’ve definitely been aware of the fact that Deku simply couldn’t keep his power in control.

However, instead of advising Deku against damaging his own body, he ended up supporting Deku in his quest to become a hero with little to no consideration for his well-being.

8 There Were Better Candidates That Could’ve Inherited One For All Than Him

Regardless of what one might’ve felt about Nighteye, there’s no denying the fact that he definitely had a point when it came to Mirio being the successor of One for All.

Instead, what ended up happening is that Deku, a Quirkless kid, ended up receiving these powers instead, which is definitely a questionable decision, indeed.

7 Midoriya Should’ve Waited For A While Before Going For The Entrance Exams

Regardless of how apt One for All might’ve been for Deku, there’s no denying the fact that he had little to no experience with this power. Ideally, he should have trained for a long time—perhaps a year or so—before even thinking about applying in an entrance exam where his only means of defending himself would’ve crippled him. Was All Might really so convinced of Deku’s abilities that he thought he’d be able to fend for himself immediately after earning the Quirk, or did he pull some strings with the U.A. staff, after all?

6 He Should’ve Made A Hero Uniform That Could Absorb The Recoil Of His Blows

Given the utility of most hero costumes, it’s possible that Midoriya could’ve just asked for some special attire that could absorb the recoil of his blows and mitigate the damage caused to his body. However, he never even bothered to think about this particular course of action, which caused no end of problems for him during his initial years as the successor of All Might.

5 U.A. Should’ve Never Let A Kid With A Self-Harming Power In Their School

My Hero Academia 10 Things That Make No Sense About Izuku Midoriya

One has to definitely call out U.A. High School and their lack of any awareness when it comes to selecting a new batch of students. It’s crystal-clear that Midoriya is not even remotely in control of his powers… and yet, not only does the school pass him but they also put him in the best first-year class! What sort of message is this supposed to send?

Of course, Shota Aizawa was pretty vocal about not letting Midoriya destroy himself in pursuit of his goals of becoming a hero, but he eventually changed his tune after recognizing Midoriya’s potential.

4 The Green Aura Surrounding Him Makes No Sense

My Hero Academia 10 Things That Make No Sense About Izuku Midoriya

Whenever All Might used his One for All powers, the only thing that surrounded him was the vacuum that originated as a result of the sheer expulsion of force from his movements. However, there’s no explanation given as to why Midoriya is surrounded by a green electric aura whenever he goes into his Full Cowling mode, other than the fact that it looks… cool.

3 It’s Somewhat Frustrating How No One Is Around To Recognize Midoriya’s Achievements

My Hero Academia 10 Things That Make No Sense About Izuku Midoriya

For someone who’s accomplished a ton of things over the course of the series, it’s honestly frustrating to see the lack of credit that Midoriya gets at times. It certainly doesn’t help that most of the awe-inspiring things that he manages to accomplish happen without an audience, an occurrence that is so frequent that it’s become an inside joke within fans at this point.

2 It’s Stupid That Bakugo Thought Midoriya Looked Down On Him

My Hero Academia 10 Things That Make No Sense About Izuku Midoriya

Bakugo is one of the more interesting characters in My Hero Academia, and his rivalry with Midoriya is definitely one of the reasons why this is the case. That being said, one has to admit that his reasons for hating Deku aren’t really all that justified.

Apparently, after falling into a pool once as a kid, Midoriya tried to pick him up by offering him a hand. Something that should’ve been nothing more than a friendly gesture ended up being perceived by Bakugo as an act of disrespect, something that had fuelled his hatred for Midoriya ever since. It’s totally ridiculous, and easily one of the most contrived reasons to hate any person ever, though Bakugo’s bruised ego is a major recurring element throughout the series.

1 It’s Frustrating That He Never Really Stands Up To Bakugo

However, one thing that is definitely frustrating about Midoriya and Bakugo’s dynamic is the fact that the former never really stands up for himself, no matter how badly he’s treated by someone whom he genuinely considers a friend.

Regardless of his feelings, Midoriya should not be so ridiculously dense; there are limits to a person’s behavior, and Midoriya should’ve put his foot down and given Bakugo a piece of his mind a long time ago. The two do fight a fair bit, but Midoriya naively refuses to admit that the two are more frienemies than anything.
