Overwatch Update Adds Ashe Mardi Gras Challenge & New Twitch Sprays

The latest Overwatch update unveiled a new seasonal Mardi Gras event, featuring the Ashe Mardi Gras Challenge and new Twitch sprays. Blizzard games are known for their festive and unique events. Annually, there are six events in Overwatch: Summer Games, Halloween Terror, Winter Wonderland, Lunar New Year, Anniversary, and Archives (formerly known as Uprising).

Seasonal events reflect major holidays, game milestones (such as Anniversary), and cultural celebrations. Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday, is a French Carnival celebration originating as far back as medieval Europe. French settled New Orleans, Louisiana has celebrated Mardi Gras since the early 1730s and has become an iconic festival in North America.

The Ashe’s Mardi Gras Challenge runs from Fat Tuesday, February 25 through March 9. Players have the opportunity to earn limited-edition rewards such as six sprays, two player icons, and a stylish Ashe and Bob Skin. Ashe’s new skin is truly one of a kind and embodies the joy of Mardi Gras. Once unlocked, catch Ashe sporting a beautiful masquerade mask and Bob toting a full set of beads in true Mardi Gras spirit.

Winning three games in Quick Play, Competitive Play, or Arcade earns the Mardi Grashe and Mardi B.O.B. player icon. Best opponents in six games and players are rewarded with the fantastic Gold Mask Spray. If players are lucky enough to win nine games to unlock the limited-edition epic Mardi Gras Ashe skin, they’ll be particularly noteworthy competitors. After players connect their Twitch and Blizzard Battle.net accounts, they can also watch participating streamers with drops enabled to unlock in-game sprays. After two hours, players earn the “King Cake Ball” Spray, four hours unlock “Semlor” and “Beads” spray, and after six hours, fans unlock “Rex”, “Red Death”, and “Carnival” sprays.

In addition to the Mardi Gras Challenge, the update brought the long-awaited Experimental Card game mode to live PC and console servers. This mode is similar to the Public Test Region (PTR) but does not require a separate download. The game mode allows players to experiment with meta changes, the first being a 3-2-1 role lock. This meta features three DPS heroes (damage per second), two healers, and one tank. Furthermore, the Experimental Card comes with changes to select characters that aren’t present in other standard game modes. Changes introduced in the Experimental mode aren’t set in stone to be released to the live game modes. Players still earn loot boxes and earn experience while hanging in the Experimental mode, which shows Overwatch devs are attempting to entice players to participate.
