Pixar Movies The 10 Most Mature Characters Ranked

Some Pixar characters seem to have the weight of the world on their shoulders. Whether they’re the ruler of a kingdom, a parent caring for their children, or someone just trying to find their way in the world, it seems that these characters have a lot of responsibilities to handle.

While having such weighty responsibilities tends to make some characters a little uptight, others are able to play it cool by not only doing their duty but also having fun with it. From Brave’s Queen Elinor to Onward’s Ian Lightfoot, Pixar has provided plenty of mature characters for audiences to learn from.

10 Poppa Henry Was No Stranger To Hard Work

Pixar Movies The 10 Most Mature Characters Ranked

Poppa Henry does more than his fair share to keep the homestead running. He has to maintain the crops, build the silo, and teach his children their roles on the farm. When it comes to the farm’s human problem, Henry knows that it’s a matter of eliminating the pest or watching his family starve in the winter. While this is an unpleasant task, Henry is mature enough to know what he must do.

9 Massimo Gave Alberto A Home

Pixar Movies The 10 Most Mature Characters Ranked

It takes a great deal of maturity to not only bring a child into the world but also to raise them to be hardworking, honest, and brave. Massimo was always a great father to Julieta, raising a daughter who isn’t afraid to stand up for what she believes in. Yet, as impressive as that was, Massimo also provided a home for Alberto after discovering how he’d been alone for a long time, having been abandoned by his own father. While Alberto is certainly a handful, Massimo never gives up on him, even in the special, Ciao Alberto, wherein the boy gets into more than his fair share of trouble. Massimo is always willing to help his adopted son fix the messes he makes and show him how to be a better person.

7 Imelda Rivera Made A Business To Provide For Her Family

Pixar Movies The 10 Most Mature Characters Ranked

When Imelda Rivera was left as the sole matriarch of her family, she knew she had to find a way to provide – not only for her daughter Coco but for the many generations to come. So, she rolled up her shirtsleeves and taught herself a trade that would never go out of business. She then passed on her knowledge to the younger generations of her family to ensure they’d do the same. Even in the afterlife, Imelda had many responsibilities, including making sure that Miguel would make it home safely to his parents. She knew the pain of a family member going missing and would not let the same happen to Miguel’s parents.

6 Ian Lightfoot Brought Back Magic

Pixar Movies The 10 Most Mature Characters Ranked

Ian Lightfoot is mature for his age. Despite being the youngest member of his family, he takes care of himself and showcases his skills in cooking, cleaning, and sewing (among other things). Yet, Ian’s maturity is actually what holds him back, making him overthink the consequences of possible actions and generally making him anxious. Throughout his journey, Ian had to learn that life is also about making mistakes and taking risks; this lesson allows him to bring back magic whilst also growing as a person, which is undoubtedly one of the most responsible things someone can do.

5 Moonwind Released Countless Trapped Souls

Pixar Movies The 10 Most Mature Characters Ranked

As far as maturity goes, most viewers would assume that Soul’s Moonwind is the least responsible character out there, but that would be a mistake. While Moonwind is unstructured, lackadaisical, and generally scatter-brained, he’s also the Captain of a ship: a soul guru who can travel freely between realms and is a savior of countless souls.

Although he was never asked for help, Moonwind took it upon himself to free the trapped souls that he came across on his travels through the other realm. It can even be assumed that he taught his crew how to do the same, considering how they all help him on his expedition. While it’s probable that he was originally only practicing mindfulness or seeking enlightenment, Moonwind became a hero who never once sought thanks for his actions.

3 Queen Elinor Had To Keep Four Kingdoms United

Pixar Movies The 10 Most Mature Characters Ranked

Prior to being the Queen of DunBroch, Elinor was no stranger to war. If it hadn’t been for Fergus uniting the four clans, DunBroch wouldn’t have existed. Yet, even though the war is over, the four tribes are far from peaceful, and Elinor takes it upon herself to ensure there won’t be another war under her rule. Behind closed doors, she does everything to make sure the land remains peaceful by bartering trades, tending to the kingdom’s needs, and even offering her daughter for an arranged marriage. When the clans meet and inevitably fight, it’s Elinor who brokers the peace by using her authority to keep the clan leaders in line, all without ever raising her voice.

While Elinor is already an excellent leader – wise and unyielding to the pressures of her role – she tends to see things from a black and white perspective. It’s all thanks to Merida that she learns how there are always other options to save the kingdom from war whilst ensuring the citizens’ happiness at the same time. It takes a good leader to prevent war, and a great leader to ensure that their people are thriving and satisfied too.

2 Roz Protects Two Realms

Pixar Movies The 10 Most Mature Characters Ranked

Most viewers of Monster’s Inc probably remember Roz as the sardonic receptionist of the company, giving her little credit beyond that. While there is little to be said about her job in the company, there’s more than meets the eye with this character. As revealed by the end of the film, Roz was secretly undercover; her real job is being the leader of the CDA (Child Detection Agency). As such, Roz has a very important role – not only protecting monsters from children but also protecting children from anything beyond the basic scares that monsters are supposed to perform. Although Roz discovers that children aren’t dangerous by the end of the film, she still makes the tough decision to destroy Boo’s door (mainly to protect the child). With two realms to protect, Roz always has to be responsible.

1 Edna Mode Potentially Saved Billions Of Lives (The hero saves people but the clothes save the hero)

Everyone knows of Edna Mode. Fashion-forward and fun to watch, she’s the designer of superhero apparel that allows the heroes to do their jobs. She lowers the risk of them getting hurt whilst also protecting their secret identities. Having designed outfits for the Incredibles, Frozone, Gazerbeam, and other such heroes, Edna has potentially saved billions of lives. Edna’s outfits protect the heroes; the heroes save the citizens, and the citizens go on to live their lives – all thanks to Edna’s innovative creations in new textiles that work around a hero’s powers.
