Tom Holland mocks rumors that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will be in Spider-Man: No Way Home in a brand new promotional video. Tickets are already on sale for the much-anticipated film as fans’ excitement for the movie reaches an all-time high. Subsequently, a brand new Spider-Man trilogy is reportedly in the works, confirming the wall-crawler’s future in the MCU. But amidst all these developments, there’s still no official information whether or not rumors are true that Maguire and Holland are reprising their superhero role in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
This particular speculation has been going on for months now — even before the threequel’s official title was announced. Admittedly, this hasn’t been the only interesting rumor about the movie. There were also claims that villains from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man franchise and Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man movies would also be in the movie — something that trailers and posters have now confirmed. But while Marvel Studios and Sony continue to be tightlipped on the matter, evidence is mounting that previous iterations of the iconic Marvel superhero will indeed be in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Knowing full well about the fan commotion regarding this particular possibility, Holland decides to poke fun at it in a brand new Spider-Man: No Way Home promo spot. Released by Fandango in celebration of tickets now being sold, the actor introduces his “two very special friends,” which turns out to be Zendaya and Jacob Batalon, who play MJ and Ned, respectively in the movie. With a coy smile, Holland then adds “who else would it be,” aware that viewers may have expected Maguire and Garfield. Watch the video below:

Although not as obvious, this could also be an indication that the rumors about past Spider-Men appearing in Spider-Man: No Way Home are true. The fact that Marvel Studios and Sony are willingly mocking the claims could mean that they are ready to deliver on it. Otherwise, it would be extremely disappointing for fans to tease this possibility knowing that the movie doesn’t feature either Maguire or Garfield. This doesn’t mean, however, that everything else that’s been speculated about the pair’s involvement is true. MCU architect Kevin Feige has actually warned viewers to keep their expectations in check going into the Jon Watts-directed threequel. Because even if the aforementioned actors do appear in it but not in the way fans have envisioned, it could still lead to them being disappointed.
It made sense, however, that Holland is doing press activities for Spider-Man: No Way Home with Zendaya and Batalon. Both have been key players in the Spider-Man franchise since it began with Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2017. It also emphasizes that at the end of the day, the story’s focus is Holland’s Peter Parker. Finally, there’s no chance that Marvel Studios and Sony will causally confirm Maguire and Garfield’s involvement through a simple promo video — especially after going to great lengths to preserve the secrecy surrounding their supposed appearance.
