Star Wars fans will be able to enjoy official Baby Yoda cereal when the product arrives later this month. Straight from the first episode of Disney’s Star Wars TV series, The Mandalorian, fans knew that they were witnessing something special. The series was an instant hit, and this wasn’t simply the result of blockbuster filmmaker Jon Favreau’s involvement or the fact that The Mandalorian felt familiar, yet fresh to Star Wars fans.

A major part of the program’s immediate appeal came from the character known officially as The Child, but more commonly referred to as Baby Yoda by fans and the greater public. The character’s brief introduction in the first episode of The Mandalorian kick-started what would go on to become nothing short of a phenomenon, the likes of which really took hold on the internet. Memes, intense discussions, and opinions followed, with fans drawn to each successive episode in hopes of finding out more about the mysterious creature. And although Disney intentionally held back Baby Yoda merchandise throughout the Christmas season, there is now plenty to choose from, with even more on the way.

Perhaps one of the most obvious signs of Baby Yoda’s popularity (in terms of merchandising), is that a new breakfast cereal is on the way from General Mills. The cereal was initially teased back on what is known to Star Wars fans as Star Wars Day (May 4), on General Mills’ Instagram account. The company has avoided directly including the name “Baby Yoda” in the labeling or marketing of the new cereal, instead calling it “Mandalorian-inspired.” The product will initially be sold exclusively at Sam’s Club by late July, in a two-bag box. By mid-August, it will become available at Walmart in a single sized box. General Mills officially describes their new cereal as follows:

“The Mandalorian-inspired cereal is packed with sweetened corn puffs and a bounty of fun, with marshmallow pieces shaped like the Child to deliver a breakfast that can be enjoyed in your own galaxy.”

At present there is no word on exactly how long the cereal will be available for, but as it is a promotional item, it likely won’t be a permanent addition to General Mills’ product line. That being said, with the second season of The Mandalorian due to arrive this October, it’s unlikely that Baby Yoda’s popularity is going to dissipate any time soon. It’s hard to imagine anyone at this point being surprised if the new cereal becomes hugely popular and in demand. If that does turn out to be the case, by mid-August, when the cereal meets the major distribution capabilities of Walmart, there’s only a short amount of time until October and the second season of The Mandalorian. Depending on what happens in the new season, it could greatly serve to amplify further sales of the cereal.

Based on its description, General Mills’ Mandalorian-inspired cereal doesn’t really sound all that different from other more commonly known cereals already on the market. But of course, it isn’t really the cereal’s flavor that will be driving the majority of its initial purchases. If the cereal does end up tasting good as well as being fun, then it’s easy to see how huge the potential is for this Mandalorian inspired treat.
