Thanos Wants One Eternal To Rebuild Him Into Something Better

Warning! Spoilers for Eternals #8 by Marvel Comics

With Thanos now in charge of the Eternals, he’s demanding that Phastos rebuild his frail body into something even better than its usual powerful self. In Eternals #8, the newly elected Prime Eternal gives Domo the chance to rebuild his damaged body. However, when his attempts fail, Thanos calls for Phastos, the Eternal who brought him back to life, to help fix him.

Thanos has been making serious power moves in the current Eternals ongoing series at Marvel Comics. After being brought back to life and rebuilt by Phastos and the Great Machine, Thanos ended up defeating Zuras to become the new Prime Eternal. As Thanos rises, the core group of Eternals are in Lemuria, trying to find some sort of purpose after learning their resurrection protocol ended up unknowingly killing a human every time they used it. However, with Phastos gone to the home of the Deviants, Thanos is demanding his return to help rebuild his body.

In Eternals #8 by Kieron Gillen, Esad Ribic, Matthew Wilson, and VC’s Clayton Cowles, Thanos reawakens Druig after killing him for his previous traitorous plans. He tells his new memory-wiped Eternal servant he needs a new body, as he “must be whole again.” At Olympia, Thanos turns to Domo and Celestial science to help rebuild his body. However, after the attempt fails, Domo reveals Phastos didn’t design the body to last and to fix it, he’ll need his help. Thanos kills Domo and tells Druig he needs Phastos… immediately.

Thanos has never been one not to pursue his quests for power vigorously, so naturally, he immediately heads to Lemuria to track down Thanos. He makes a stirring entrance, descending from the sky and telling those below him, “the king of Earth in here.” He tells the Eternals and Deviants he only wants to gather his “rightful tribute. Phastos.” However, Thanos being Thanos, he follows that up by telling them, “Phastos. And your lives.”

Thanos will likely give Phastos a dark choice: He can help and rebuild Thanos into an even deadlier and dangerous being, or he can refuse and watch Lemuria and the Deviants likely be destroyed. Considering Phastos’ guilty conscience was why he brought Thanos back to life, he might have no other option but to rebuild the Mad Titan. However, Phastos could also realize that if he does rebuild Thanos’ body to something even better than before, it could spell the end for the Eternals. It will be fascinating to see whether the one Eternal who can help Thanos will be pressured to do so. Eternals #8 by Marvel Comics is in comic book stores now.
