Super Mario 3D World Players Can Summon Fury Bowser With Amiibo

Nintendo is releasing a couple of new amiibo alongside the release of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, and the classic Bowser amiibo has the power to summon Fury Bowser while exploring Lake Lapcat. Fury Bowser is King Koopa’s new form introduced in Bowser’s Fury, and players now have the power to summon him at the scan of an amiibo.

Fury Bowser was first introduced last week during a new trailer for Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury. This monstrous Koopa wreaks havoc on Lake Lapcat, and it’s up to Mario and Bowser Jr. to stop him. In an informational trailer released the following morning, it was revealed that Fury Bowser lies dormant off the shore of Lake Lapcat, and only awakens after a certain period of time. When he wakes up, a storm rages as Bowser breathes deadly flames, and his spikes rain from above.

For those who can’t wait for Fury Bowser to raise more hell on Lake Lapcat, they can bypass the wait by scanning the Bowser amiibo. According to the official Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury website, the Bowser amiibo has the power to “Make Fury Bowser appear.” That’s all the detail that the website provides, but it’s safe to assume this means waking Fury Bowser from his slumber. Why players would want to do this has yet to be revealed, or maybe this feature is for those who wish to make their stay at Lake Lapcat as miserable as possible.

Thankfully, the other amiibo compatible with Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury are more helpful. The Bowser Jr. amiibo can be used while playing Bowser’s Fury to unleash a powerful shockwave to knockout nearby enemies and blocks. Two new amiibo, Cat Mario and Cat Peach, allow players to unlock special power-ups. Cat Mario will equip the player with the white catsuit making the player invincible, and Cat Peach will gift the player a random power-up.

While the other amiibo will make the game much easier, the Bowser amiibo’s use raises a few questions. Why would players want to summon Fury Bower, or is it really just a way to raise the game’s difficulty? Are there certain areas of Lake Lapcat that can only be accessed during or after Fury Bowser throws a fit? Why wasn’t Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury celebrated with a Meowser amiibo? All questions that will be answered once the game releases next month.
