The CW’s Arrow offshoot, The Flash, introduced metahumans to the network’s shared DC comics television universe when it premiered in 2014 and has been dealing with their appearance – thanks to the S.T.A.R. Labs particle accelerator explosion – ever since. Season 2 of The Flash also introduced the multiverse, with particular attention paid to Earth-2. So, when one of the first season’s most memorable metas, a sentient gorilla named Grodd who had developed powerful psychic abilities, returned in season 2, Barry Allen and his team sent the creature to Earth-2 – where he was shown heading toward Gorilla City.

Although Grodd was the only sentient gorilla on Earth-1, it appeared he would find a new home among other hyper-intelligent gorillas in the remote jungle city. Still, fans of The Flash hoped to see Grodd again as well as a much closer look at Gorilla City (which was originally shown from a distance), and his return has been promised for some time. Now, we have an idea of when Grodd will be seen again on The Flash.

Actor David Sobolov, who voices the sentient gorilla on The Flash, announced Grodd’s return in 2017 on Twitter once season 3 of the series resumes. The actor additionally teased more news to come once “Warner Brothers unseals my lips.” Sobolov’s announcement was retweeted by The Flash star, Grant Gustin, though he didn’t offer more details. Take a look at Sobolov’s tweet:

The Flash producer Andrew Kreisberg previously confirmed Grodd’s return in season 3 during the Television Critic’s Association summer press tour, revealing Team Flash will be heading to Gorilla City for a two-episode arc. However, no details about Barry’s trip to Gorilla City on Earth-2 have been released since then, although Sobolov’s announcement indicates we might be receiving official news soon – potentially revealing which characters will make the trip, whether Earth-2 Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanagh) will be involved, and which other hyper-intelligent gorillas from the DC comics will appear.

Of course, considering the positive reception the character has received from fans of The Flash and the comics, the character’s return will be highly anticipated no matter the details of this episode. However, the fact that the two-part episode will take place in Gorilla City certainly adds another aspect for viewers to be excited about.

Still, it remains to be seen how The Flash pulls off setting two episodes in Gorilla City since it’s a much different setting than Central City or even Earth-2 Central City (which had a distinct 1920s feel to it). Additionally, since the previous Grodd-focused episode was so well-received, season 3’s return of the character has a high bar to live up to. But, considering The Flash has handled the character well in the past, fans can likely expect an exciting and compelling arc when Grodd returns in the second half of season 3.
