10 Ellie Alves

In Season 2, Joe got new neighbors, sisters Delilah and Ellie Alves. Though Ellie is only 15 years old, she is mature. She also has a sarcastic sense of humor and witty personality, making for some really funny lines.

She gave Joe a hard time, but the two seemed to really like and respect each other, and her bright ways definitely had something to do with that.

9 Mr. Mooney

In flashbacks, Mr. Mooney was shown. This man owned a bookstore called Mooney’s, which is where Joe worked, and it would have taken some smarts to open a store like that.

While this man gave Joe a job and helped take care of him, he also tormented him; he claimed he was just teaching Joe lessons, but his methods were a bit unorthodox. They also gave Joe creepy ideas, as Joe locked people in the glass cage that once held him.

8 Delilah Alves

As mentioned, there was also Delilah Alves, who was Joe’s landlord and an investigative reporter. Like her little sister, Ellie, she was witty, sharp and feisty. Her intuitions guided her in life and in work, making her a force to be reckoned with really.

7 Peach Salinger

In Season 1, Joe’s love interest, Beck, had a best friend named Peach Salinger. She could be a bit superficial, as she was a socialite and influencer, but she met Beck at Brown. She also caught on to Joe rather quickly.

Her wisdom made her powerful and opened her eyes to see what Joe was doing… but not before it was too late.

6 Blythe

Someone else from Beck’s world was Blythe, and these two were competitive. Beck was naturally bright, but she also had defined interests in reading and writing. Therefore, whenever Blythe shared her intelligent thoughts and works, Beck could feel a little threatened by this obviously smart supporting character.

5 Dr. Nicky

Another part of the first season showed Beck going to therapy, and her doctor there was Dr. Nicky. Of course, Joe also started to see him, under an alias, as he assumed that Beck was hooking up with him, and then Joe also framed Dr. Nicky.

As a licensed professional, though, one who seemed to give his patients good advice, this man belongs on this list. Plus, those glasses make him look even wiser (and cuter)!

4 Candace Stone

Beck and Love were not the only women that had caught Joe’s eye, because before them, there was Candace Stone. He thought he had taken care of her, though, as he does, but she showed up at the end of Season 1.

She then followed him to Los Angeles in the second season, proving that he was not the only smarty pants around; she could lie, flirt and infiltrate just like he could, proving that she had brains, guts and even some creepy tendencies.

3 Guinevere Beck

While Candace was sneaky-smart, Guinevere Beck was more book smart. She studied literature at Brown and got her Masters in Fine Arts, too. She took her interests and skills, and she made those her passion and career path… It was all just cut short.

She just seemed like a together, polished, normal, kind, and wise human being, too.

2 Love Quinn

Of course, there was also Love Quinn, who ranks pretty highly on this list. First, she was an aspiring chef and health guru, so she had knowledge and skills in these areas, which helped her at her job.

But, as seen by the twist at the end of Season 2, she also had a dark side. She could use her wit and wily ways to pull the wool over eyes, which made Joe find her even more appealing!

1 Joe Goldberg

When it comes to the most intelligent characters on You, Joe Goldberg would have to be named number one. First off, he was interested in reading and writing, and he showed this off in various jobs and hobbies.

Secondly, he was a serial killer, which took some real thinking. From spying on people and creating new identities to breaking into houses and deceiving people he loved, it was clear that he was sharp… and very scary. Yes, he is a one-of-a-kind character, and fans can’t wait to hear the rest of his story.
