Miraculous Ladybug is a French CGI superhero show, also classified as a magical girl series because of the nature of their kwamis and transformations. Miraculous Ladybug was produced by a collaboration of several different studios. Despite its slightly messy plot, Miraculous Ladybug has garnered quite the fanbase across all age ranges. Marinette and Adrien make a relatively good team (despite their differences and occasional disputes) and are fun to watch on-screen.

Most of the dialogue can be cheesy, but Miraculous Ladybug has plenty of age-appropriate humor and puns thrown in. There are still some lines that seem strange, most of which revolve around Marinette and her love for Adrien, or Plagg’s obsession with cheese.

9 “Then, We’ll Get Married, Live Happily Ever After In A Beautiful House, And Have Two Kids! No, Three” – Marinette

Marinette’s crush on Adrien is framed in a way that viewers are supposed to find cute, but for much of Miraculous Ladybug, she’s too shy or afraid to let any of these feelings be known. She lashes out at any other girl who spends time with Adrien for ‘stealing her true love’, making it even harder to root for her.

The above quote, of Marinette detailing one of the many ways she’s imagined their life together, comes off as strange rather than cute. Because of his background, Adrien has negative feelings towards family life, so he may not even want children.

Adrien’s popularity as a part-time model is well-known and established throughout Miraculous Ladybug. He has a ton of fans, his advertisements are posted all across Paris, and many of the female characters have (or used to have) crushes on him.

This popularity has presented a few problems for Adrien, as he has to deal with mass amounts of unwanted attention that he’s too kind to reject. On one occasion, while being chased by a horde of crazed fans, he states that if they stopped chasing after him and screaming, they might be good friends.

Marinette’s priorities are incredibly strange, especially when it comes to Adrien. After Marinette leaves an embarrassing message on Adrien’s phone, she secretly takes his phone and tries to erase the message. Rather than considering his feelings when she steals from him, she panics about being arrested and jailed for the rest of her life without the chance to go to the movies with Adrien.

The dialogue before this quote sees Marinette panicking when Adrien calls his phone and worrying about the possibility of him tracking it. Her spiraling is meant to be comedic, but it just seems odd.

6 “You Two Really Are Made For Each Other. Neither One Of You Can Make It To School On Time” – Alya

There are plenty of reasons why Marinette and Adrien could end up being a good match. They care deeply about one another as friends, and always have each other’s backs in their superhero personas.

However, as pointed out by Alya, both of them being late to school certainly isn’t one of their strong traits. While she meant this as a joke, Marinette takes anything involving Adrien very seriously.

5 “If By Big, You’re Referring To My Rock Hard Abs, Why, Thanks For Noticing!” -Plagg

Plagg is more of a comedic relief character than anything else. He does offer advice and support to Adrien every once in a while, but most of his lines center on his obsession with Camembert cheese. Unfortunately, the above quote is a typical line of Plagg’s that’s intended for comedic relief but doesn’t quite land.

When Adrien states they have a big problem on their hands, Plagg flips the conversation to a sarcastic remark about his physique. He rarely takes situations seriously, and the above quote best displays that.

Marinette stuttering over her words around Adrien is nothing new. However, some of these interactions come off as stranger than others. Love-struck as she is, Marinette accidentally confesses that she’s “totally into” him and lies about having an interest in fencing.

This lie is spoken after Kagami shows up, a talented fencer who has a lot in common with Adrien, which makes Marinette seem petty and competitive. It’s also strange that Adrien doesn’t pick up on her feelings.

Alya stating that she has a sibling-like relationship with Nino isn’t too bizarre. However, it does become strange when audiences see how their relationship develops, as the pair enter a romantic relationship over time.

It’s quite common to deny romantic feelings when someone is still trying to navigate them, but strangely, Alya compared their initially platonic relationship to that of siblings. Luckily, when the two get together, their foundation as friends helps their relationship to become an open, honest, and trusting one.

When Marinette and Kagami first attempt to become friends with one another, it doesn’t go well. Marinette still holds reservations about Kagami because of her feelings towards Adrien, and Marinette acts incredibly awkward around her.

After their attempts at friendship start to crumble, Kagami notes that their blood types must be too incompatible. This might seem strange to some viewers but in Japanese cultures, blood types are believed to be a good indicator of a person’s personality and can define people’s dynamics or relationships.

Plagg’s obsession with cheese, much like Marinette’s obsession with Adrien, is frequently played up for laughs. However, not all of his jokes land well in Miraculous Ladybug, and the above quote is one of Plagg’s strangest. The quote ends with Plagg saying, “Hello Camembert, I’m Plagg. So very nice to eat you!” Plagg’s lines tend to embody Miraculous Ladybug’s corny humor.
