It all goes down in a Canadian trailer park. Beer, a few wayward handguns, weed, and maybe the occasional chicken finger showed up as props on Trailer Park Boys, but nothing will ever be as iconic as the glass of rum and coke that was always attached to Julian. Every character had their own unique charm, and Julian was the figure who was often the brains of the operation, which isn’t saying much. Usually, he just manages to keep Ricky from killing himself. Here are a few of the hilarious quotes that could only come from Julian, Ricky’s faithful friend and sidekick.

10 “Did they just call me Patrick Swayze?”

This quote from the Pilot Episode was funny on its own, and in hindsight, it’s even more hilarious. This quote set up a running joke that haunted Julian throughout the series. Apparently Julian was obsessed with the film Dirty Dancing in his younger days. His friends caught him acting out some of the scenes in his garage in grade school and he has yet to hear the end of it. Yes, Julian, they called you Patrick Swayze, and it won’t be the last time.

9 “I’m either gonna become an electrician, a meat cutter, or I’m gonna get into television and radio broadcasting.”

In the immortal episode, “F**k Community College, Let’s Get Drunk and Eat Chicken Fingers” Julian is making an attempt to better himself after a stint in prison. The quote is funny because it reveals that Julian isn’t half as smart as he thinks he is. As with most of his plans, Ricky was on hand to mess them up, but considering his rather contradictory career choices it wasn’t such a great plan in the first place.

8 “Would you see DeNiro doing a porn flick?”

Desperation and poverty can lead to some hard choices, if you’ll pardon the pun. In the episode, “Mr. Lahey’s Got My Porno Tape!” local hip-hop magnate J-Roc decides he’s going to start producing pornographic movies. Naturally, he needs someone to star in them and both Ricky and Bubbles are eager to volunteer. Julian tries to talk Ricky out of it, more because J-Roc is involved than anything else, and the result is a hilarious picture in our heads of Robert DeNiro in a porn flick.

7 “I don’t care about your ass, Ricky!”

When you’re dealing with Ricky, sometimes you just have to be blunt. This is one of those times. In the episode, “Mrs. Peterson’s Dog Gets F**ked Up” Julian is taking care of Sparky, the neighbor’s dog. While he goes to the DMV, however, he leaves the dog with Ricky who is looking after his daughter and baking pot brownies. While Julian is gone, the dog eats some brownies and Ricky’s daughter, Trinity, accidentally shoots him in his ass. Julian returns, and even he’s amazed at the havoc that ensued in a mere 45 minutes. He takes both Ricky and the dog to seek medical attention but makes it clear to Ricky with his quote what his priorities are.

6 “Go mow some lawns or something, you greasy bastard.”

This comment was directed at Randy, another denizen of the trailer park in the episode “I’m Not Gay, I Love Lucy… Wait a Second, Maybe I am Gay.” Ricky, Randy and the manager of the trailer park, Jim Lahey, are fighting about Ricky sitting in the middle of the street drinking a six-pack of beer. Julian arrives and tries to break up the argument. Lehay and Randy are Ricky and Julian’s sworn enemies, so Julian isn’t exactly cordial when he intervenes. Luckily this quote adds some levity to the situation.

5 “Randy, a lot of barbecues look alike. You’re probably on drugs or confused or something, like you usually are.”

“Where in the F**k is Randy’s Barbecue?” is the title of this episode and the premise of the storyline. Jim Lahey is always looking for reasons to give Ricky a hard time, and by extension, his friend Julian. One thing we know about Randy is how much he loves cheeseburgers, and when his barbecue goes missing Lahey assumes Ricky is responsible. He’s actually right, at last partly. Julian tries to defend his friend by throwing shade at Randy for either being high or just confused, and the casual delivery almost flies right over Randy’s head.

4 “Listen, why don’t you try focusing on the weed a bit more, OK?”

In this episode, “The Green Bastard”, an unusual set of circumstances places Ricky in charge of the trailer park, with predictable results. Never a good multi-tasker, Ricky is also trying to grow a crop of cannabis, which he actually has a talent for. Julian, who has a talent for grasping the obvious that his friend lacks, tries to give him some advice. What’s so funny about this is it sounds insane to the audience but it’s a perfectly normal conversation for Julian and Ricky.

3 “You’re here for one reason and that’s to sell drugs, okay? Stay focused, man.”

Throughout the course of the show, Julian gives Ricky valuable career advice. In “Don’t Cross the Sh*t Line” Julian recruits Ricky to sell drugs at a local vocational school. Ricky’s intimidated at first, as he usually sells to high school students, and he’s distracted by the fact that his would-be girlfriend Lucy is planning on starring in J-Roc’s latest porno film. Julian tries to lift his spirits with this upbeat and unintentionally hilarious quote.

2 “You’re prostituting yourself out for cheeseburgers again, aren’t you?”

This quote is funny for a number of reasons. First of all, it’s a rather shocking statement that’s perfectly normal dialogue in the trailer park. Secondly, there’s a running joke on the show about Randy and his love of cheeseburgers. Thirdly, Randy’s pragmatic reply is the title of this episode, “A Man’s Gotta Eat.” Randy isn’t the only one with problems. Julian himself spends most of the episode drunk and broke, and Ricky actually helps him out for a change.

1 “Listen, just pretend you’re on mushrooms, all right? Just go with it.”

It’s hard to pick a single funny quote from what could be one of the best episodes in the whole series, “Conky.” This line from Julian, spoken in totally serious deadpan, is one of the best. It’s too long a story to explain all of it, but it’s about the puppet Conky who seems to be Bubbles’ evil alter ego. Julian actually took the puppet away from Bubbles in grade 6 and hid it, afraid it was making his friend go crazy. At one point Ricky gets a rag glued to his face and the fumes are making him hallucinate. There are other factors in play, like trying to get help for Bubbles, who has an abscessed tooth, so Julian gives Ricky this advice hoping it will keep him calm.
